Resort 2011: Chloé, Christopher Kane, Miu Miu, Moschino Cheap & Chic, and Temperly London

Whoops! Totally dropped the ball on the recap of Resort collections there! From taking my Vancouver vacation to my mini roll on other entries, I guess I forgot to recap the last bit of the collections. However, I don't really mind stretching out the resort collections, even though the last one showed a month ago, because it's easier to actually admire, enjoy, and remember the collections this way. I think when I write an entry a day on collections, things tend to get lost in the shuffle and I forget to actually look at burgeoning ~trends and whatnot. OK, enough chit chat! Onto photos.

By the way, if you're reading this on the actual site and not an RSS reader, I have added jump cuts to my blog for your convenience. The site will load faster now, you won't have to scroll so much, and it's just cleaner to look at. If there are any problems, please let me know though! I think it's still business as usual if you're reading it on an RSS reader.
As always, click image to enlarge.
Chloé, like Céline, is what I aspire to be like when I become a respectable lady. It's difficult for me to dress in a minimalistic way, especially in neutrals, but looking at the collections that Chloé has put out just makes me yearn for the day when I can actually perfect this look.

SPACE...the final frontier. Or something like that. What can I say except the prints on Christopher Kane's collection are amazing. Nebulas exploding in space, as seen with the Hubble telescope? Yeah I'm sold. The only real decision here is how to whittle down the selection for a collage for this entry. Silk and leather, high waisted shorts and empire waist party dresses, jackets and sheer shrugs...be still my heart!
You already know of my love for Miu Miu prints, and this resort collection is no different. Polka-dots, nautical stripes, and fruit prints played on retro silohuettes like 1970's flared jeans and long skirts. I think the shoes really make the outfit though. You get sailor-inspired shoes with a nautical outfit, and some 1940's-inspired open-toe sandals with polka-dot tap shorts. Yes a lot of vintage throwback but once you notice the apples and peach prints on the clothes, you know you're in 2010.

Moschino Cheap & Chic went the ladylike route, although it clearly went through a quirky filter. Dresses that you could totally wear for an afternoon tea are toughened up with grommets and metallic-accented ankle cuffs. Of course, the dress brings you back to the girly side with bows and a nice cardigan or blazer!

For me, the standouts in Temperley London's resort collection were the black and white print outfits. Button ups are made both ladylike with a high-waist graphic skirt and tough with a pair of zippered leather pants. Long muted metallic gowns are made (a little bit) casual with a drapey cardigan and we can rest assured that skinny cropped pants are here to stay, as you can pair it with a visually interesting top. Needless to say, this collection is for cool city ladies--or at least ladies who want to look cool.

Babbling brooks and lazy streams

An outfit post from last Wednesday. Anam, Micah, and I went on a mini hike/~writer's retreat~ to Ferndell Park in Los Feliz on a blisteringly hot day (96 F ugh). Yes, I am woefully overdressed for a mini hike, but at least I look really, really summery? I mean, I could totally go on a 1920's boat ride after this and not look out of place! ;-)

I was basically forced to make this pose. SERIOUSLY!

Vancouver Photo Journal

Some photos from my 9-day trip to Vancouver to visit some family. Of course, they are absent in these photos because I'm not sure how keen they are to be splayed out online, even if it's just my little blog. The champ in these photos that isn't me is my brother, whom you've seen pop up on this blog now and then. Enjoy!

July25July25July25

I have been counting down the months (and now weeks!) until the new season of Mad Men premieres on AMC (July 25, in case you didn't catch that). I mean, yes there's the fashion, but there's so much more! Sally's lisp! The love-hate relationship we have with Don Draper! Betty's fainting couch! STERLINGCOOPERDRAPERPRYCE!
In honor of finally getting to see a new episode of Mad Men in just one week (!), here are some amazing photos of the always gorgeous Christina Hendricks (Joan Holloway) for L.A. Times Magazine, photographed by Joshua Jordan and styled by Hayley Atkin.

Hippy Dippy

Even with the entire world (including me) loving Proenza Schouler's Spring 2010 collection, I still can't bring myself to wear anything tie-dye without looking like a fifth grader. I guess this dress is my compromise to the trend: a little bit of tie-dye print without looking like I'm about to ~surf some waves~ or look like I dipped an XL tee-shirt into vats of watery ink.

Also, I'm tempted to cut my hair short again but I don't know what style. Good idea? Bad idea? Suggestions?

Parkin' it, Picnic'in it

Spent a good, sunny day in Irvine on Saturday, BBQ'ing it up, playing badminton on the grass, and walking around the Irvine Zoo (Best $2, man!). Of course, the sun left around 5 PM when it RAINED. And not hot summer rain, but regular cold rain. So weird. But I love it, because after yearning for summer weather and then getting it for two days in Vancouver* (90 degrees! ugh!), I am kiiind of over it already. All those summer posts and inspiration collages, OUT THE WINDOW.

Anyway, here are some photos from the zoo, picnic, BODY PAINTING, and of course an outfit photo. This is the second outfit entry in a row that I'm wearing Converses. I guess I subconsciously knew it was going to rain!
*I promise a Vancouver photo post soon!
