London Fog

Christina Hendricks for London Fog
Christina Hendricks of Mad Men models for Mad Men's old client London Fog, which is kind of trippy. Christina is done up very Joan-style: the bouffant and heavy eye make up of the 60's. But whatever, it suits her and I don't really need an excuse to post Mad Men related editorials and adverts!

Closet space

I am working with a very limited wardrobe right now so I am forcing myself to be creative. Obviously I brought more sweaters/cardigans than anything else (followed by--in order--tights/socks, dresses, shoes, jackets.). This entry is not really important but here is my view from the 16th floor of my apartment:

New Yawkin' It

I am moving to New York today (well, by the time you read this, I will already be halfway there!) so posting will be EXTRA spotty until I get into the groove of things. So I'm apologizing in advance for neglecting the blog! Also, since I don't know how awkward it will be to take outfit pictures without any backyard privacy, those may become nonexistent for a month or two.

BUT, fashion week is coming up soon and I'll actually BE in New York surrounded by all the hubbub. Obvs, I won't be getting any tent action, but you know...there may be some gems to tell you about!

Until next time,
Vivian.

L'Officiel August 2010

No need for lengthy diatribes or gushing about how much I already love Alexa Chung's style (but click here for more!), here are some scans from L'Officiel Paris' August issue. It has a totally 1960's feel to it even though she is wearing modern clothes (of course, some Burberry!), which makes this spread all the more inspirational.
See more after the jump.

"Love Story"

Details September 2010
Throwing a bone to my male readers today. Here is a inspirational editorial for Fall from the September issue of Details, featuring Mathias Lauridsen. Lots of great outerwear (blazers, sweaters, coats) by way of 1970's. I love the color palette--lots of neutrals (of course I've been influenced by Phoebe Philo!) as well as the scarves and tailored jeans.
More after the jump.

A Pop of Color

Outfit 48
If I could choose any decade to live in just for sartorial reasons, I would totally choose the 1960s. I think for those who have been reading my blog for awhile now are saying NO DUH, SHERLOCK but I can't help it! Everything is just so amazing and flattering and fun! So of course, when I ran into this little shift number, I just had to have it...because a girl can never have too many mod-inspired clothing.

Betty Draper: On Horse.

January Jones in Tattler
Another excuse to talk about my love of Mad Men. This editorial comes from the UK's Tattler, featuring January Jones who plays Don Draper's (Jon Hamm) ex-wife. There was one scene in a past episode of Mad Men where Betty rides horses, so this is pretty reminiscent of that. I'm in love with the waistcoat and the white button up adorned with a bow. Equestrian looks for fall, anybody?

Polka-dotted school girl

Outfit 47
I've been lazy on outfit posts lately but it's mostly because I've just been living in striped tees and graphic shorts. So Ann Taylor, I know. This outfit is super bordering on (private) school girl, and I know my Benjamin Button face doesn't help matters in aging this look, either. But you know, I'm just going to say that I was inspired (which is actually my justification in buying this skirt) by the Spring/Summer Twenty-Seven Names collection: sheer white tops, blue polka-dotted bottoms, ankle boots. The last thing that would make it similar would be long flowy hair but alas I cut my hair the other day and now it's short(er) again.

Sweet and Lowdown in Brighton

TEST: Sweet and Lowdown 2010
How much do I love this editorial in TEST magazine? It's shot in Brighton, a city I love and a city I miss every single day. It's shot in this hazy Polaroid way. And, it's styled in fantastic pieces that totally evoke that vintage summer holiday that I've always yearned for. I could look at this editorial for ages, especially in the dead of winter when I again look forward to warm weather, lounging by the seaside, and of course summer.

A.P.C.'s Madras for Urban Outfitters

Yes, you read that right! A.P.C.'s cheaper/younger line "Madras" is heading to Urban Outfitters. The prices will actually be in reach (although barely for me!) and it totally evokes Fall, which I am definitely already looking forward to. Bring it on!

Dog days of Summer

I think there's about one and a half months left of summer--the weather is not consistently hot and miserable here in Southern California. On a good day, I can sneak in a Fall item here and there. This spread in L'Officiel Russia reminds me of the waning days of summer. The weather still allows for sunbathing and frolicking in swimwear, but you can also pull off a light blazer if you want to.
